Auckland, Jan 13 NZPA - A man, arrested after the fatal shooting of another man north of Auckland last night, appeared in court this morning.

The accused, who's name has been suppressed, faced a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm when he appeared in North Shore District Court. He was remanded in custody until next week.

Police said it was too soon to say if further, more serious, charges would be laid over the fatal shooting of a 28-year-old man at a house in Haigh's Access Rd, Redvale last night.

The victim's name has yet to be released.

Police found him dead after being called to the property shortly after 11pm yesterday.

Another man at the house was arrested and a gun seized.

Police said they were not looking for anyone else over the shooting.

The house was cordoned off for a full forensic scene examination and police said it would stay cordoned off for the next few days.
