Wellington, Jan 3 NZPA - The two Indian men arrested for the alleged rape of a Hawera woman on Christmas Day have been remanded in custody.

Chef Kumwar Singh, 34, and Kamal Singh, 30, whose occupation is unlisted in court documents, were returned to New Plymouth District Court yesterday after they were unable to meet strict bail conditions regarding their accommodation.

Senior Sergeant Selwyn Wansbrough, of New Plymouth police told the Taranaki Daily News the two men were to reappear in Hawera District Court on Wednesday.
