Striking radiographers (MRTs) abandoned strike action to respond immediately to the earthquake in Christchurch by turning up to work to ensure additional patients are treated.
Medical radiation therapists (MRTs) in Christchurch were scheduled to undertake a partial strike today but all radiographers ensured they were at work in the event of an influx of patients, the Association of Professionals and Executive Employees says.
"Even radiographers who would not normally have been on duty, strike or no strike, went to work to ensure adequate services were available", APEX spokesperson Robyn Slater says. "At this time no major casualties have been presented, however the radiographers are on hand should the need arise."
APEX will also not proceed with the strike in Canterbury DHB, scheduled for this Tuesday.
