Murder Accused Pleads Guilty

Wellington, Oct 14 NZPA - One of the men accused of murdering South Korean backpacker Jae Hyeon Kim has pleaded guilty.

The 31-year-old former Westport man, who has name suppression, made the admission at the start of a second day of a depositions hearing in Greymouth into the murder of the 25-year-old who disappeared some time in 2003.

The prosecution has alleged he was strangled and buried somewhere near Charleston on the West Coast.

The man, who is unemployed, will be sentenced on December 5 at the High Court at Wellington.

A second man, Shannon Brent Flewellen, 29, a former fisherman, of Nelson, is charged with the economics student's murder.

Another man, 29, who has had his identity and the charges he faces suppressed, yesterday admitted a prima facie case against him.

The depositions hearing into the charges against Flewellen will continue today.
