24 October 2008 - New way-finding signage at Waikato Hospital will help patients and visitors easily find their way around an ever-changing site.

Media and communications director Mary Anne Gill said hospitals could be intimidating places at the best of times.

"With so many changes happening at Waikato it is important that our signage is up-to-date, relevant and easy to understand.

"The new signs are clear, simple and of international standard for way-finding," she said.

Mrs Gill said the old external signage, put up 15 years ago and in the old Health Waikato colours, was out of date and cluttered.

"Too many signs in any place can create confusion and with so many changes happening at Waikato Hospital there is more of a need than ever for signs to be simple and clear."

The new signs are part of a complete signage review for the hospital, both inside and out.

"We're conscious many people come to hospital in a stressed state and it's essential signage helps rather than hinders them."

The new look external signage is in place at Thames Hospital and other rural hospitals in Tokoroa, Taumarunui, Te Kuiti, Morrinsville and Te Awamutu will follow.
