New Zealand rugby fans and players will be invited to express their sympathy and support for victims of the devastating Pacific Islands earthquake and tsunami at New Zealand's domestic rugby matches this weekend.
A moment's silence will be held prior to kick-off at all Air New Zealand Cup and Heartland Championship matches, as well as the women's national provincial championship final in Christchurch, as a mark of respect to remember the victims and the many people impacted by the tragedy.
"Rugby has many connections with the Pacific Islands as well as the community here in New Zealand and the thoughts of the entire New Zealand rugby community are with those affected by this terrible disaster," NZRU CEO Steve Tew said.
The NZRU is also working with Provincial Unions to organise collections at this weekend's matches so fans can make donations to help the relief efforts.
