The inaugural Short Line Out 2010 Charity Fishing Tournament is to be held on November 5 - 6 2010 with Omaha Bay being the chosen base.
Several years ago, The Furuno Fishing Tournament, a major attraction to boaties and fishermen far and wide, ended due to the sale of land on Kawau Island. Several participants, residents and business people within the community felt that without the Furuno fishing tournament, a huge void was left, inspiring the organising committee of The Short Line Out to do something about it.
In doing so, The Short Line Out 2010 Charity Fishing Tournament will be raising money for The Rugby Foundation, a foundation which looks after seriously injured ex rugby players, and also the local Mahurangi Rugby Club whilst also creating an ongoing event for fisho's the country over. While the event at Omaha will be much smaller in size than the "blokefest" that used to be the Furuno, it is offering a huge amount of prizes. With over $20,000 in prizes expected, including $1000 cash for the heaviest snapper, up for grabs for the anticipated 300 entrants, its sure to attract fisho's from near and far.
Tickets for the Short Line Out 2010 Charity Fishing Tournament are extremely limited in numbers and they will sell out. With two days of fishing between Bream Head and Cape Colville, including the Hen and Chicks, the Mokohinau Islands and the inside of Great Barrier, The Short Line Out 2010 Charity Fishing Tournament promises a lot of fisho's plenty of space to catch the big one! Species eligible to be caught include Snapper, Kingfish, Kahawai and Gurnard and a huge prize pool covers all these species.
The organisers goal is for everybody to have a good memorable experience from the tournament, this includes the volunteers, the fisho's and of course the local people of Omaha and the Rodney District.
As it is a charity tournament, we are still looking for more sponsors and supporters as well as volunteers to help out. Anybody looking to purchase tickets can go to the Fishing Tournaments link on the Mahurangi Rugby Club website, www.mahurangirugbyclub.co.nz.
