No Tranz Metro rail or rail bus services Friday morning

Rail services are not expected to resume in the Wellington region until Friday afternoon at the earliest due to adverse weather conditions

Significant surface flooding and slips remained at several locations around the network late Thursday night. Track inspections are unable to be carried out until the flooding recedes and would begin at first light on Friday. Information about status of the network will be not be available until after those checks are completed and that is expected to be late morning.

There will be no Tranz Metro railServices operating Friday morning.

Bus replacements are unable to be provided.

Commuters are advised to check the Tranz Metro website for updates later tomorrow morning.

The Northern Explorer service will be bus replaced between Wellington and Palmerston North tomorrow morning.

Capital Connection services will be bus replaced tomorrow with limited stops at Shannon, Levin and Otaki.

Freight services are also cancelled in and out of Wellington until further notice - KiwiRail is liaising with its customers .

Important message for commuters:

- Heavy congestion is likely on roads in all areas - slow traffic

- Avoid nonessential travel if at all possible

- Consider talking to your employer to make alternative arrangements.

- Keep checking key transport websites for updates and information .
