The North Shore's latest industry graduates will celebrate their successes next week at a ceremony hosted by the North Shore City Council in Takapuna.
43 graduates from across the city will be recognised for completing their National Certificates or Diplomas with an Industry Training Organisation, through the successful Mayors' Taskforce for Jobs initiative. The graduates have taken part in training in various fields including printing, retail, plumbing, motor industry and local government.
The Mayors' Taskforce, implemented in 2003, is a network of 71 Mayors across the country who are committed to promoting industry training as an excellent career option. The Mayors share the common goal of increasing employment, training and education for people in their communities.
North Shore City Mayor Andrew Williams is one of the Mayors involved, and says next week's graduation is an opportunity for the Council to congratulate people on their wonderful achievements, show commitment to local industries, and thank local employers for their commitment to developing and hiring well trained industry employees.
"Providing opportunities for work and training in our city is fundamental to the social and economic survival of our communities. We all know that an educated population adds to the vibrancy and creativity of a city and allows us to remain competitive in the global economy.
"I am so pleased to see such a large group of graduates from the North Shore attending this year's ceremony. They can be extremely proud of their hard work, persistence and dedication to their training, and will now be part of our upskilled, eager and well educated North Shore population.
"I am confident these graduates will make a major contribution in the future to their chosen fields and to the wellbeing of our wider North Shore community, and I look forward to hearing about their future achievements," says Mayor Williams.
The graduation event will take place at 6pm on Thursday 18 March at the War Memorial Hall in Takapuna.
