Nurses Opting Out Of Auckland Abortions Is A Sign Of Hope

4 FEBRUARY 2009 - Family Life International views today's news that many Auckland nurses are opting not to perform abortions on babies older than 13 weeks as a very real sign of hope for the many unborn children whose lives are needlessly lost to abortion every day in New Zealand.

With every week of foetal development that passes, it becomes harder and harder to suppress the reality of the humanity of the unborn child, and the cold hard truth that abortion is a truly devastating act which exposes women to grave risks, and brings about an unjust end to the life of the innocent human person that is developing inside them.

True medicine is about healing and restoration of health, and as such it is the complete opposite of abortion, which involves a surgical intervention to bring an end to the life of a living, developing unborn baby.

Family Life International views it as a sign of great hope that more and more medical professionals are seeing the true reality of what abortion is, and that they are exercising their legitimate right to conscientiously object to any participation in it.

Our hope is that in time the wider community of New Zealand will also come to examine its collective conscience about abortion, and that a free and frank discussion can be had about the ever-increasing volume of evidence which points to the humanity of the unborn child, and to the harm that abortion causes to the women who experience it.
