ORC Surveying Port Chalmers Bus Users

The Otago Regional Council (ORC) will conduct a survey next week on the preferred departure time for the after 5pm commuter bus from central Dunedin to Port Chalmers.

Last week the ORC received a petition from bus users requesting a return to the previous departure time and will survey bus users to determine their preference.

ORC director policy and resource planning Fraser McRae said that the 5.15pm service was moved to 5.30pm to reduce the previous gap of 55 minutes between it and the next service which departs at 6.10pm.

"As the change to the service only commenced at the beginning of the month we don't have a great deal of data, but bus patronage has remained relatively constant," he said.

The survey will be carried out next week, as bus usage normally changes during the school holidays and next week should give a truer indication of bus user preferences.

Mr McRae said once survey results are reviewed the ORC will make a final decision on the timing of the after 5pm bus run from the city to Port Chalmers.
