NEWS - Norman Flags China

Green MP Russell Norman was just being friendly and waving the flag of his country – Tibet - to a visiting Chinese politician. Before he got the chance to tell the visiting VIP about the great offer he had of free Tibet for everyone, a Chinese security guard snatched his flag and wouldn’t give it back. To which Russell responded “give me my flag back, give me my flag back”. Understandable really. The Chinese didn’t even bring a flag of their own to wave. Bad form really to grab Russell’s flag and not give it back.

It looked like Russell had been watching a lot of the World Cup though because he went down as easily as an Italian striker and was appealing for the Chinese to get a yellow card.

SPORT - Wimbledon – Two Guys Find Smart Way to Stay on Court

In the First round at Wimbledon 2010 two guys found themselves evenly matched at two sets all. Knowing that even the winner was not likely to go much further in the tournament they realized that if no one won then they could make their tournament last as long as their bodies could hold up. And so it began game after game after game after game. In the end Isner slumped to the ground the winner after an epic match that spanned three days and blew all the records for the longest match off the court. Winning 70 games to 68 in the 5th set had never been done before.

Mahut and Isner’s epic match grabbed the headlines and showed how a bit of creative thinking could turn supporting cast members into stars. Even non-tennis fans were talking about it. For a time Federer and Nadal were a sideshow. Throwing in a couple of 5 setters each and flirting with elimination they attempted to steal the limelight back again but Mahut and Isner had already booked their spots in sports fans classic sporting memories.

RELIGION – Visions of New Zealand Prime Minister at Sporting Events

Many sports followers are claiming to have seen a vision of the New Zealand Prime Minister during major sporting fixtures. There were sightings in South African where New Zealand was playing Italy in the FIFA World Cup. Again a few days later as the All Blacks were battling Wales in Hamilton.

A legend is fast growing that if the apparition of John Key appears then the team he supports will know sporting success. Already groups of sports pilgrims have been seen gathering at the Prime Ministers electorate office and lighting candles near the front door. Many of their mumbled prayers are indecipherable but there are reports that a kiwi victory in the 2011 Rugby World Cup is very popular.

The Prime Minister himself is not commenting and his office refuses to confirm or deny that the title of St. John of Helensville was considered in the Queens Birthday Honours list. It is understood that concerns over potential conflict with the Vatican who have had a St. John of their own for some time scuppered the idea. Suggestions were also made that advisors were uncomfortable with ‘Helen’ being in the title for obvious reasons.
