Wellington, Jan 3 NZPA - Police today arrested a man and woman suspected of robbing a Mount Maunganui Lotto shop at gunpoint yesterday.

The man allegedly pointed a small firearm at a woman who worked at the Mount Paper Power Lotto Shop, on Central Parade about 2.50pm, Detective Sergeant Darryl Brazier said.

He demanded cash then fled with the shop's register.

He then made his escape in a waiting Jaguar car, with tinted windows and silver mag wheels, Mr Brazier said.

Police yesterday found the car a short distance from the shop.

A 27-year-old unemployed Hamilton man is due to appear in Tauranga District Court tomorrow charged with aggravated robbery and obstruction.

An 18-year-old unemployed Hamilton woman will appear next week charged with being an accessory after the fact of aggravated robbery.

Police recovered the firearm alleged to have been used.
