7 November 2008 - A panel of local sporting personalities are ready to put Taupo's Top Town triallists through their paces on Monday night

Councillor Mike Downard says he is thrilled with the interest and support being shown by so many people in Taupo "it feels like the whole town is in behind this so we hope to get a good turn-out on Monday night - we want competitors and supporters to come along and be a part of the whole experience."

He says a panel of local sporting personalities including Chris Henderson from Body Worx Gym, Trevor Colyer from Taupo Squash Club and Christine McKnight international tennis referee, will join him and radio DJ Andrew Leiataua on the night overseeing the three activities that have been organised at the Taupo Events Centre and AC Baths.

"The staff up there have been fantastic and have organised an obstacle course, a pool activity and will also utilise the climbing wall for the trials. Members of the panel will be stationed at each activity and will be scoring competitors on their teamwork, determination, agility, strength and personality," he said. "Its also great to have so much support from Mayor Rick Cooper and CEO Rob Williams."

Clr Downard says registration forms are starting to roll in and there is still time to register. Registration forms are available from Council offices, library and Taupo Events Centre and will be accepted on the night. You can also email for a form.

The trials are at the Taupo Events Centre on Monday 10 November, registrations from 5pm.

The Taupo Lakers team must consist of 6 females and 6 males made up of the different weight categories of lightweight under 75 kg, middleweights under 90 kg and heavyweights over 90 kg. The competition is held Christchurch and filming is between 1 December and 4 December.
