A rainband is expected to lie slow moving over Canterbury and Otago during Monday and Tuesday bringing southeasterlies and further rain to areas where the ground is already saturated with water from recent rain events.
For Canterbury and eastern Otago, persistent rain is expected on Monday, probably persisting through Tuesday, especially south of the Banks Peninsula. Over 100mm may fall in some locations on top of what is already a very sodden situation.
Members of the public are advised that streams and rivers may rise rapidly and there may be areas of flooding and slips. Driving conditions could become difficult and road closures are possible.
Heavy rain is no longer expected in Canterbury north of the Waiau River.
