Police and other services are at the crash of a petrol tanker that occurred at about 4pm this afternoon on Plimmer Tce in the centre of Shannon.

As a result the tanker is leaking petrol.

There are diversions in and around Shannon but Police ask drivers to avoid the area if they can.

We are asking the public to stay well clear of Plimmer Tce and the surrounding street.

Another tanker truck is on scene and we expect to start transferring the remaining fuel from the damaged truck soon.

At this stage there is no indication how long this will take but we expect the road to be closed for most of the night as this task will take several hours
