Wellington Police are urging residents in the Eastern suburbs to be safety-conscious, following two recent night time burglaries.

Detective Inspector Paul Basham, officer in charge of the Wellington CIB says overnight Police were called to two separate Kilbirnie addresses within quick succession, where occupants had woken to find a male in their homes. Once disturbed, the offender has fled quickly.

"We believe these two incidents are linked and are very keen to hear from anyone in the Kilbirnie area who may have seen a male acting suspiciously in recent days or anyone who may have heard or seen any suspicious behaviour around their neighbourhood."

Detective Inspector Basham says it's important that residents follow our basic preventative messages around reducing opportunities for potential burglars to gain entry to premises by ensuring their doors are locked each night and that windows are secured.

"If you do hear or see anything suspicious call Police as soon as possible on 111 or phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
