Police Charge Two Men Over Alexandra Assaults

Two men have been arrested and charged in relation to the assaults on the two people in Alexandra on Sunday.

Both the persons arrested are residents of Alexandra and are both 22-years-old.

The men will appear in the Queenstown District Court tomorrow on charges of assault with intent to injure.

The investigation team is pursuing a third suspect and more arrests and charges are likely over the next couple of days, police said in a statement.

The hospitalised victim is now out of his comma and is being transferred from the Intensive Care Unit to another ward. However, he is not yet able to be spoken to by members of the Dunedin CIB.

Police said they were hopeful that over the next day or so they would hear that person's account of the events.

Victim Support has been in contact with the two victims and their respective families.

A team of 12 police staff from through Central Otago continue to work on the case.

The scene examination has been completed. However, a team of investigators will continue with area enquiries this evening and over the next day or so until this phase is completed.

Police appealed to the public for witnesses to any of the assaults in the Short, Station, Brandon Streets area in the early hours of Sunday the 21st of March 2010 are asked to contact the Alexandra Police.
