Hutt Valley Police investigating the aggravated robbery of Charltons Bar in Silverstream last week are hoping the release of CCTV images may help identify the offender involved.
Detective Sergeant Richard Orr of the Hutt Valley CIB says just before 9pm last Wednesday (30 May 2012), a male entered the rear door of Charltons Bar in Silverstream, Upper Hutt.
"The offender was holding what is believed to have been a sawn-off firearm and a black carry bag. He approached a female staff member behind the bar and demanded cash."
Detective Sergeant Orr says the offender ran from the bar out the back door with a small amount of cash and to a vehicle waiting approximately 200 metres away on Kiln Street. The male entered the passenger side of the vehicle which drove off west on Kiln Street and turned right into Field Street which leads onto Fergusson Drive.
"We're not sure whether the vehicle then went towards Lower Hutt or Upper Hutt at that point and are hoping that these distinctive CCTV images of the offender may help us with our ongoing enquiries."
The offender has been described as Maori or Polynesian, around 25 years of age, wearing a black bandana with a white pattern on it, covering his face. He had a distinctive red hooded sweatshirt with white stripes down the sides and white lettering on the back, black pants and black shoes with white soles. He also had thick eyebrows, was approximately 170 centimetres tall of large build.
"We urge anyone who recognises this offender in the attached CCTV images to phone Hutt Valley CIB on (04) 527 2300 or phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
