Wellington, March 21 NZPA - One of two men assaulted in Alexandra early today is in an induced coma in Dunedin Hospital tonight, police say.
The other man has a fractured nose and bruised eyes.
Detective Senior Sergeant Colin Blackie of Otago rural police said 12 staff were working on the case and although no arrests had been made so far, police had a number of positive leads they hoped would help identify the assailants.
A scene examination had been conducted in and around three streets in the town and area inquires would continue tomorrow.
