The NZ Lotteries' office in Wellington has been busy today, popping champagne corks and handing over millions of dollars to the lucky Powerball Second Division winners from Saturday night who have come forward to claim their big prizes.

A hard working Auckland woman, who has been living payday to payday, is over the moon with her $6.1 million Powerball win.

The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, got a huge fright when her numbers came up during the live Lotto draw on Saturday night.

"I always used to watch those draws and think why can't it be me even fifty thousand would have been enough to let me get ahead. Life has not been easy, and I even had to borrow the money to fly down to Wellington to claim my prize.

"However, I have always had the love and support of my family. Now I will be able to do more for them and take life easier for a while," she said. Her winning ticket was bought at Onehunga Office Supplies in Auckland.

A Wellington family are also today stunned by their $6.1 million share of the Powerball jackpot.

The family, who have older children, all bought tickets for last week's draw, and all joked during the week about having the winning ticket.

"One of our children actually said lucky charms over all the tickets - as they reckoned it would bring us good luck", the winning parents said.

The parents realised they had actually won big when they checked their numbers later on Saturday night. "We must have gone back to that computer hundreds of times to recheck that ticket. One of our children says she can't believe our family are now millionaires!" they said.

"We were just in the right place at the right time", the winning father said. "I just popped into Whitcoulls to look at some books and bought a ticket on the spur of the moment. We always dreamed of winning and now it has come true."

Another Wellington family bought their $6.1 million winning ticket from J'Mall Lotto in Johnsonville, Wellington.

The family, who want to stay anonymous, are still in disbelief at the win. "I thought my husband was having me on and reading out the numbers from the ticket I was checking," said one of the winners. "I was checking the ticket from the bottom-up and it was that bottom line that had the prize, I couldn't believe my eyes!"

The winnings are heading straight for the bank while the winners decide how to make the most of their windfall. "We think we might do some travel at some point - but this time we'll upgrade ... all the way to premium economy!" they said.

NZ Lotteries has also heard from the winner who bought their ticket from the small South Island town of Reefton. Whilst the winner has yet to officially claim their prize, they are from the West Coast.

The outstanding $6.1 million Powerball ticket that is yet to be claimed was sold at Manukau Pak 'N Save in Auckland.
