A cold front is currently crossing Canterbury this evening, bringing some light to moderate rain to the Waitaki District and South Canterbury. A further 5 to 10mm of rain is possible in these areas through to Wednesday morning, especially near the foothills where up to 15mm could accumulate. This is not usually considered a significant amount of rain and is well below warning criteria.
However, it could still cause problems in these areas given the saturated conditions from recent rainfall events.
The good news is that once the remaining rain or showers have cleared on Wednesday, a prolonged spell of dry weather is expected about eastern Otago and Canterbury through to the weekend and possibly longer.
