Rape Prevention Education - Whakatu Mauri, Executive Director, Dr Kim McGregor, says "Having an independent Commission of Inquiry, as suggested by Owen Glenn, that is not based on a single term or the philosophy of one government, could be exactly what is needed to develop a long term strategic plan to eliminate all forms of violence against children and youth".

She supports any initiative that helps to develop a sustainable, effective, cross-party, long term strategic plan that targets all forms of violence against children and youth.

McGregor was delighted to hear that philanthropist, Owen Glenn, today committed $8 million as a pilot to target family violence and child abuse.

She says "In New Zealand there is a huge amount of sexual violence committed against our children and young people - mostly perpetrated by those close to them".

"Every school that Rape Prevention Education educators deliver sexual violence prevention programmes to has disclosures of sexual violence - no matter what the decile rating of the school".

Rape Prevention Education is keen to support initiatives and leadership that are focussed on the elimination of violence.
