The makeover of the North Shore's beautiful Bayside Reserve is finally complete, with some stunning interpretive information panels highlighting the features of the transformed reserve being revealed this weekend.

Bayside Reserve was closed for six months last year while the North Shore City Council and the local Bayside community worked collaboratively on measures to improve the look of the reserve and the water quality of the stream, including removing an unsightly 80 metre concrete channel and replacing it with a naturalised stream, upgrading the stormwater pond and installing floating wetlands. Some 120 local property owners planted over 4000 native plants alongside the stream both in the reserve and on private properties.

Beautifully illustrated interpretive panels explaining the many important features of the reserve add the final touch, and will be officially revealed by North Shore City Deputy Mayor, Julia Parfitt this Sunday afternoon. The panels include illustrations of the wildlife that lives in the stream, explanations of how the different features improve water quality, photographs of the transformation of the Bayside area over the past few decades, and an educative panel about the plants in the area.

Julia Parfitt says the stunning finished product is testament to a fantastic partnership and months of hard work by the local community and Council staff.

"The Reserve has been completely regenerated over a short period of time and the community can be proud of their efforts, having worked collaboratively with Council to transform the area that is so precious to them, and such an area of pride for the North Shore. The North Shore City Council is very pleased to have supported this wonderful initiative," she says.

Over the next year, Council staff will continue to advise and support Bayside residents to continue making improvements to the stream and reserve area.

The unveiling of the new panels will take place during a walk around the pond, starting at 3pm on Sunday 21 March. The public are invited to bring their family and friends, a blanket and a picnic and enjoy the panels and a relaxing afternoon in the reserve.
