Wellington, March 14 NZPA - A severe weather watch for the Clutha and Dunedin areas was posted tonight, the MetService saying southwest gales in the region were expected to last until early tomorrow.
Forecasters said wind gusts could possibly exceed 110 kmh about exposed coastal hills and headlands during this period.
Winds in exposed locations could possibly be strong enough to damage trees, powerlines and insecure roofs and make driving hazardous for high-sided vehicles and motorcycles.
The watch would remain in force until reviewed at 10am tomorrow.
