An impressive sea of white will cover the Ngataringa Bay Sports Field, Devonport, this Friday as personnel from the Royal New Zealand Navy parade at Divisions.
Formally known as Fleet Divisions, the Royal New Zealand Navy Divisions are a long standing Navy tradition where the entire Navy is reviewed in a formal setting. It is also the time for awards to be presented for Operational Excellence as well as the 'Sailor of the Year' award.
The ceremony will commence with the Navy Kapa Haka group welcoming the Governor General of New Zealand, His Excellency the Honourable Sir Anand Satyanand, PCNZM, who will review the assembled sailors. Watching on will be Members of Parliament, Mayors and other dignitaries from the local area, as well as friends and families.
To signify the importance of the parade, the Governor-General will be wearing his Navy uniform. He holds the rank of Admiral as New Zealand's Commander-in-Chief. The welcome will be followed by a 21-gun-salute followed by a flypast of Seasprite Helicopters.
