12 June 2009 - As advised yesterday, the ABC Learning Centre in Kelvin Road, Meadowbank has been closed following confirmation that one of the children in our care has H1N1 or 'Swine Flu'.
The centre was closed immediately and all people who had been in contact with the child (29 children and seven teachers) have been placed in quarantine. They are being treated with a prophylactic course of Tamiflu and are under the direction of the Auckland Regional Public Health Service (ARPHS).
The centre was thoroughly cleaned yesterday, in strict accordance with Ministry of Health guidelines.
ABC Learning Centres is liaising closely with both the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all children in our care. We continue to enforce strict hygiene protocols and have been advising parents that children suffering from any illnesses - in particular those with flu-like symptoms or returning from overseas travel - should stay at home.
Subject to approval from ARPHS, we plan to reopen the centre at 7.30 am next Tuesday, 16th June.
In the meantime, should you have any further questions regarding the children and teachers currently being treated with Tamiflu, please direct them to ARPHS Communications Manager, Sally Young on 021 938 431.
