16 February 2009 - 'Make it click' a simple act that may just save a life but in the case of a crash near Taupiri overnight omitting to do so may have cost a man his.
Waikato Police are still working to formally identify the driver of a Isuzu 4x4 found damaged in a paddock off Orini Rd near Taupiri about 7.30pm.
Serious Crash Unit Investigators were back at the scene this morning working to establish the cause of the crash that saw the male driver thrown from the vehicle.
Initial indications are the driver, who was the sole occupant of the 4x4, over corrected after losing control on a slight bend and ended up crossing the centreline and rolling into a culvert before smashing into a fence, stopping in a paddock.
Investigators believe given the damage to the vehicle the driver would have had a good chance of survival had he been wearing a seatbelt.
Last night's crash takes the Waikato's road toll to eight compared to three for the same period last year.
