An 18-year-old Napier man will face driving charges in the Hastings District Court next week, after Police allege he led them on an 8-minute pursuit, which reached speeds up to 185km/h.
Police saw the man's speeding vehicle on Swamp Road shortly after midnight Friday night and attempted to stop him, which resulted in a pursuit that ended when the offending driver pulled over at the Napier Golf course.
The driver had a male and female passenger - both aged 17 years old - and will face charges that reflect the serious danger he placed their lives in when he chose to flee from Police.
As a direct result of his decision to try and outrun Police, the man has had his vehicle impounded, his licence suspended, and has been charged with reckless driving, driving at a dangerous speed, failing to stop for Police, and resisting arrest.
