15 August 2008 - A South Canterbury family are still coming to terms with the news that they are the region's newest millionaires after claiming the $1,020,720 Lotto First Division prize from Saturday night, says NZ Lotteries' Chief Executive, Todd McLeay.

"We found out on Monday we'd won but it's just been such a shock we've had to wait until we felt more settled before we went and claimed the prize," said the family spokesperson.

"When I checked my numbers online and saw it was us I couldn't believe it. I called my partner to tell them and they said "bullshit" but I told them I wouldn't joke about something like this," the winner laughed.

The winning ticket was purchased at Take Note Temuka. The family wish to stay anonymous and will not release where they are from in the district, but do say that they are not Temuka locals.

"It still hasn't really sunk in, maybe it will when the money is in our account!

"We're not going to do any wild spending, I think we'll just let the dust settle first - it's a big change," said the winner.
