Wellington, Dec 16 NZPA - Three men who carried out a series of hold-ups in Waikato this year pleaded guilty to a combined total of 21 aggravated robbery charges in Hamilton District Court yesterday.

Armed with knives and pistols, the trio terrorised service station attendants and shopkeepers in a series of robberies between May 23 and September 27.

Sonny Ball, 21, Ben Newman, 19, and Tautasi Sotogo, 21, appeared before Community Magistrate Rae Brooker who convicted the trio and remanded them in custody until March for sentencing.

The Waikato Times reported co-accused Isaac Ball, 19, earlier pleaded guilty to six aggravated robbery charges.

The men targeted mainly petrol stations at night, taking cash and tobacco.

Some service stations reduced their night opening hours, because of the robberies.
