Whitelock magic has worked wonders again in the annual Awards Night at Lincoln University. (30 Sept.)
Canterbury rugby's NPC captain and 2009 All Black test rookie George Whitelock has won the University's Sports Person of the Year Award following in the boot-marks of brother Sam Whitelock, an Under-20 New Zealand representative, who took the same award in 2008.
Both brothers are Rugby Scholars at Lincoln University - George doing a Diploma in Agriculture and Sam, who this year was named Rugby Sports Scholarship Student of the Year, is studying for a Bachelor of Science degree.
George's Sports Person of the Year award was presented to him by the guest speaker at the Awards Night, mountaineer Mark Inglis.
Lincoln University's Sports Team of the Year was the Netball A Team, captained by Gina Taylor, winners of the Christchurch Netball Centre's premier competition title for 2009.
Sports Scholarship Students of the Year were - Martin Kain (Cricket), Ben Harris (Football), Jordan Pentecost (Golf), Anna Wetherall (Hockey), Jane Watson (Netball), Sam Whitelock (Rugby).
