4 August 2009 - The Secretariat is looking to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced person to work as Trade Policy Officer (PICTA) who will be accountable for:
Coordinating meetings, workshops and training seminars according to the work plans of PICTA components; Drafting Terms of Reference for required studies and managing consultancy contracts; Compiling and delivering agreed work programme results and preparing periodic reports in accordance with budgets PIFS and EU requirements and timelines; Monitoring PICTA operations and compliance by members and assisting in the compiling and updating of trade statistics relating to PICTA. Applicants should have post graduate qualifications in economics, taxation law, finance or international trade with relevant work experience dealing with trade and economic research and policy in the Pacific Island Countries or in a similar environment. Candidates with strong analytical skills and the ability to master new material quickly and the ability to focus upon contemporary economic and trade issues within the region with an understanding of broader development and sectoral issues (eg. environment, gender, and social issues) would be preferred. Applicants should be willing to travel economy class.
The appointment will carry a competitive remuneration and benefits package including medical and life insurance. The salary for the position is in the range of SDR23,576 to SDR 35,364. According to the exchange rate used in July 2009, this was equivalent to a range of FJD70,820 to FJD106,230. For non-Fijian nationals, this salary may be tax-free.
