Christchurch, Dec 4 NZPA - West Coast butcher Peter Lamont, 47, will go on trial on June 28 charged with murdering his wife, Lindsay Jane Lamont.
Police allege the murder occurred at the couple's house at Ikamatua, 54km northeast of Greymouth, on July 5.
The date was set at a pre-trial callover in the High Court at Christchurch this morning, where Westport-based defence counsel Doug Taffs appeared for Lamont.
Justice Graham Panckhurst set the date for the trial at the chambers hearing.
He also set down the manslaughter trial of Carmel Helen Whittle, a 38-year-old Little Wanganui woman, to begin in Greymouth on August 23, but the case will be called again in Christchurch on February 12 at another pre-trial session.
She is alleged to have caused the death of David James White, the publican at the Little Wanganui Hotel, in an incident on July 3 when police say she punched him in the head.
She remains on bail. Her defence counsel is Christchurch-based lawyer Pip Hall.
