Approximately 2.45pm yesterday (Wednesday, 12, January) a truck travelling north on SH1 into Otaki collision with a parked car and the truck overturned.
The location was between Riverbank Road and Sue Avenue and the truck was carrying approximately 5,000 litres of motor oil.
The driver of the truck was a 49-year-old man from Palmerston North. No-one was injured in the crash and there was no major spillage of the oil. However the contents of the truck had to be pumped out before the vehicle could be righted with a crane and towed away.
Kapiti Coast District Council was advised of the spillage which was contained by the Fire Service and Road Services.
Even throughout peak period there was no major disruption to the traffic flow. The truck was back on its wheels and cleaning complete by approximately 6.40pm.
