A man from Marton, who was wanted for failing to appear in court on a charge of breaching his community work, has now been arrested.

Details and a photo of the 21-year-old were circulated through the media as he was also wanted for questioning in relation to a number of burglaries in Marton during October and November of this year.

Around 7.45pm last night (Thursday, 10 December) police attempted to stop a vehicle in the Tawhero area of Wanganui. The car failed to stop for police and there was a short pursuit. Three minutes after the car was first spotted, an arrest was made. No-one was injured but the incident resulted in damage to both the offending vehicle and one police vehicle.

The man has now been charged with failing to stop for police, aggravated assault, possession of drugs for supply, six counts of burglary and theft of a trailer.

He will appear at Wanganui District Court today.

Police would like to take the opportunity to thank the media and the public for their assistance in this matter.
