Council contractors have cleared storm debris from Moa Point Road at the southern end of Wellington Airport and the road is now open after being closed overnight. Very large waves from Cook Strait, driven by a southerly, had been bringing boulders, rocks and other debris down onto the road.

Motorists are however warned to take care on all south coast roads especially in the Owhiro Bay and Island Bay areas where kelp, rocks and other debris has been washed up and is making driving conditions hazardous.
