The Wellington Based Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called today 10 Oct 2009 at 3.15pm to a tramper injured in the hills above Tora on the South Wairarapa Coast.
A 51yr old female from Karori had been tramping when she fell and injured her ankle. The Helicopter responded to the trampers' location with a Wellington Free Ambulance Paramedic onboard. A local farmer was able to give the helicopter good information regarding the weather conditions and a landing site at the location.
Once located the tramper was assisted into the helicopter and transported to the Wellington Hospital Emergency Department, where she is being treated for a fractured ankle and mild hypothermia.
