The Wellington-based Westpac Rescue Helicopter transported an Upper Hutt lady to hospital today after she fell while walking on Kapiti Island.

The helicopter, with a Wellington Free Ambulance paramedic onboard was called to the island at about 10.30am this morning and was able to land at the DOC visitor centre on the island. "As we understand it the lady was walking along a track and, while admiring the scenery and bird life, failed to detect an obstacle on the path causing her to trip and land on here wrist" says Colin Larsen, Westpac Rescue Helicopter crewman.

A visiting UK doctor was with the walking party and was able to render first aid. The lady was transported to the Wellington Hospital Emergency Department where she is currently being treated for a suspected fractured wrist.
