The Wellington Based Westpac Rescue Helicopter was call today at 3:00pm 24h Dec 09, to Kapiti Island. A female tramper had fallen and injured her ankle.
The Helicopter with a Wellington Free Ambulance Helicopter Paramedic on board responded to Kapiti Island.
On arrival it was discovered that the patient was 20mins walk up one of the tracks on the Island and due to her injuries and difficult location she was unable to walk or be carried out to the helicopter.
The Paramedic was winched down onto the track where the patient a 63 yr old visiting tourist from Canada and members of the tramping party were located. After being assessed the paramedic and patient were then both winched back into the helicopter.
The patient was then flown to Wellington Hospital Emergency Department where is is being assessed and treated for her injuries.
