RICCARTON, NZ: Phase 1 of Westfield Riccarton's NZ$75 million redevelopment will open tomorrow, showcasing a stylish additional level of retail space to complement the existing centre offer.

The new level accommodates up to 40 retailers, including a number of leading international brands, a Caf Court adjacent to the Hoyts Cinemas with its new 'Xtreme' screen, and a four-level car park.

Director of Westfield New Zealand, Justin Lynch, said the new level was the type of stylish and fresh design consumers were seeking.

"After 10 months of construction the development has attracted several more leading retail brands," he said.

"These brands will complement the existing centre's offer and provide a comprehensive retail, lifestyle and entertainment offer.

"Some of those brands include Witchery, Quiksilver, kikki.K, Vincent, Sassys, General Issue, Pagani, Mi Piaci, Identity, Specsavers, Living & Giving, and mini-major Dick Smith.

"The second phase of retail opening will include new concept stores Sony Style and adidas Originals, Country Road and TS 14+."

Mr Lynch said underlying demand from retailers and customers provided Westfield NZ with the basis for its commitment to this investment.

"The strength of this centre has been proven in the market with retail sales remaining steady," he said.

"In 2007 Westfield Riccarton was the first New Zealand shopping centre to reach the milestone of over NZ$300 million in retail sales. In 2008 the sales performance remained on par."

Westfield Riccarton development highlights:

A new Caf Court on the upper level adjacent to the Hoyts Cinemas;

Up to 40 new retailers which includes a number of leading international brands to open in two stages;

A new four level car park building, bringing the total number of car parks to approximately 2,400 [opened in November 2008];

An additional cinema screen to the existing Hoyts Cinema Complex;

An additional 8,200 sqm to the existing centre taking the centre to a total of about 54,000 sqm;

The development has provided 547 construction jobs over the past ten months and will create a total of 260 retail employment opportunities.
