Slips and washouts have affected some roads around the district after last night's heavy downpours.

Manholes have also popped on urban roads, and New Plymouth District Council would like to hear about any that have not been addressed.

"The volume of water forced manholes to pop out at various places," says Acting Manager Water and Wastes Kimberly Hope.

"If people see a manhole out of place, please let us know so we can replace it and consider it for secondary fittings to stop it popping again during high rainfall."

The Council received about 75 calls last night related to localised flooding, with staff working until nearly midnight in response.

This morning contractor Fulton Hogan is seeing to a handful of slips and road wash-outs.

Faull Road in Tikorangi is closed after a culvert failed and the road washed away, and diggers are on site now. Four slips on Okoki Road (Urenui) will be cleared by tomorrow.

Slips are also being cleared on Mataro Road (Onaero), Mimi Road (Urenui) and on Blagdon Road (New Plymouth) where a footpath was covered in soil.

Flooding washed loose metal across Egmont Road last night, as well as New Plymouth's Barrett Road where a temporary speed restriction is now in place.

Huatoki River in the central city is running high this morning. The Council will monitor the lower Huatoki Plaza and Puke Ariki Landing leading up to 4pm's high tide in case of minor flooding.
