Work is progressing well on the road reinstatement work at Devil’s Elbow on Skippers Road and Queenstown Lakes District Council contractors are intending to have the road open at Labour Weekend.

QLDC network operations engineer Michael Wardill says the weather and ground conditions encountered so far have helped speed the work to repair the section of road which was wiped out by a slip a month ago.

"Things have worked in our favour and as long as the weather holds and there are no further slips, the road should re-open at Labour Weekend," he said.

He advised that even though the road was being renewed and slightly improved, once it was re-opened it would still only be suitable for 4WD vehicles.
