Maori Affairs Minister Dr Pita Sharples says Labour is clumsy in opposition and suprisingly unclear about how multiple Ministerial roles work.

"In Parliament today, Labour MPs asked why I, as Associate Minister of Corrections, was not consulted about the three strikes policy.

A Cabinet document reveals that Associate Corrections Minister Pita Sharples was deliberately not consulted on the Government's three strikes policy, says Labour Law and Order spokesperson Clayton Cosgrove.

The Government's failure to consult either Associate Corrections Minister Pita Sharples or the Maori Party on the three strikes policy is an insult to the Maori Party and proves how limited its influence is, says Labour MP Shane Jones.

The Maori Party is mourning the death of William Takamoana Delamere - one of the last living members of the 28th Maori Battalion.

"We bid farewell today to a precious kaumatua who served his country with mana during World War II," Maori Party co-leader Tariana Turia said.

The Maori Party is praising the decision by the Aotearoa Women's Rugby Sevens squad to accept a late invitation to the Hong Kong Sevens, despite being denied access to the tournament over the past two years.
