Rotorua District Council (RDC) is inviting applications to its Community Crime Prevention Fund for the 2012/13 year.
Up to $25,000 is being made available by the council for new community safety projects within the Rotorua district.
RDC acting community safety projects officer Linda Johnston said the purpose of the Community Crime Prevention Fund is to provide local not-for-profit organisations with funding assistance.
She said the funding is to help implement programmes that will reduce or prevent crime, enhance positive perceptions of safety in the community, or better equip an organisation to carry out these activities.
"This fund gives not-for-profit groups the opportunity to be creative and come up with original ideas on how to reduce offending and increase safety in the community," she says.
"We’re particularly keen to consider ideas that are different and fresh, whether from a new group about to embark on a community safety project, or an existing organisation offering an extension to their current services."
Funding applications will be reviewed by the council’s Crime Prevention Fund Committee which comprises police representatives, youth councillors, district councillors and a member of the Te Arawa Standing Committee.
Applications close at 4pm on Friday 28 September 2012.
Application forms and detailed criteria are available online from the RDC website rdc.govt.nz (click ‘Community’ tab, then ‘Grants and Funding’). A hardcopy application form can also be picked up from the council’s Civic Centre in Haupapa Street.
