As the traffic around the Otago gets busier this festive season Waitaki MP Jacqui Dean is urging drivers to keep their eyes on the road and drive safely.

"I’d ask people to take extra care when travelling across the holiday period, being aware of increased traffic volumes, congestion, tiredness and people driving in unfamiliar environments.

"We love our traditional holiday hotspots which we get to enjoy over the summer, but I urge people to drive safely and arrive at their destination in one piece.

"Be aware of tourist drivers, be patient and understanding when travelling in congested traffic areas and follow at a safe distance.

"Also make sure you drive to the conditions - including watching the weather, roads, time of day and of course the amount of traffic.

"I encourage people to enjoy their holidays, but take the time to reach your destination in a relaxed and stress free way."
