The Health Minister has announced that he is considering to replace the Waikato DHB Board with Commissioners. Please read the Minister’s media release here.

See Sally Webb, Board Chair’s response below.

As Chair I welcome this action from the Minister. Individually as Board members we are all very committed to Waikato DHB and are fully supportive of the committed and caring people who work within the organisation.

One of the most important roles for a Board is the appointment of the Chief Executive and the Board halted process earlier this year when it was unable to appoint a suitable candidate. This has undermined trust and confidence in the Board. In addition the public disagreement which has been present for the term of this current Board has been detrimental to the Board providing trusted governance and leadership for the staff within Waikato DHB and for the Waikato community we serve

I know a number of my fellow Board members have been discussing the possibility of resigning as a group to enable the minister to appoint Commissioners so this will not come as a surprise to them.

I believe the appointment of Commissioners is the right move to ensure Waikato DHB has the trusted focused leadership is needs to address the challenges it faces.

The Board will be considering the Ministers letter within the timeframe.
