Marlborough Mayor John Leggett has warmly welcomed the announcement by Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) and the Provincial Development Unit on LiDAR mapping funding. Further details are here

"Marlborough District Council is looking forward to using this amazing new environmental data. It will help our future land use planning, environmental and business decisions, and mean we are better informed and able to make the right decisions about Marlborough’s long term future. It will also help with our planning for adapting to the impacts of climate change," he says.

Eight regional and unitary councils will receive $14 million of co-funding from the Provincial Growth Fund (PGF) to obtain LiDAR elevation datasets.

LINZ is managing this initiative on behalf of the Provincial Development Unit following an announcement that the Provincial Growth Fund will invest up to $19 million to expand 3D mapping in the regions.

The first round of applications for co-funding closed on 1 March 2019.
