The National led Government is investing $20,000 into local youth initiatives in South Auckland, says Youth Minister Paula Bennett.
"This will go into programmes that support and teach teen fathers about their responsibilities and relationships, as well as youth leadership and fun sports activities for young people," says Ms Bennett.
The Services for Young People fund supports community-based services for young people aged between 12 and 24.
"These services provide young people with the opportunities to connect with their community, gain confidence and learn new skills," says Ms Bennett.
The fund has three main aims:
Challenging young people through developmental opportunities.
Providing positive role models for youth and giving families a break by providing challenging activities for youth.
Giving young people opportunities to have a say and take part in democracy.
"A $195,000 funding injection will benefit programmes around the country and I'm delighted South Auckland stands to gain from this," says Ms Bennett.
The Services for Young People Fund totals $7.9 million annually.
Providers who have secured funding in South Auckland:
Maungarei Youth and Community Trust
Father and Child Trust, Onehunga
Auckland City Council, Matariki Youth programme
Ministry of Youth Development manages funding through provider contracts.
