A story in the Wanganui Chronicle (6 August 2012) entitled 'Wanganui votes to stick with Horizons' needs clarification, Wanganui Mayor Annette Main said.

"The item discussed at Council's meeting on July 30, which the story referred to, considered Horizons Regional Council's 2013 Representation Review. Councillors were asked if they wished to support the 'status quo' option for the number of Horizons' regional councillors per constituency for the 2013 local elections.

"This item was not about unitary authorities or local government reorganisation. There was no vote on whether Wanganui District Council wished to remain part of Horizons Regional Council.

"The topic of representation led to a wider discussion about local government reorganisation but any discussion about the future of our district and establishing a unitary authority would be presented formally to council and supported by research and detailed documentation.

"No decisions have been made on this and it is something that will no doubt be discussed in depth at a later date."
